Vietnam’s public holidays in 2027

Vietnam will observe 12 paid public holidays across seven occasions in 2027, one more than in previous years, following the planned addition of Vietnam Culture Day. Several dates, including Lunar New Year and National Day, are still awaiting formal confirmation from the Government, based on a proposal submitted by the Ministry of Home Affairs in September 2026.

This article sets out the expected 2027 holiday calendar, explains what has changed compared with previous years, and outlines what businesses in Vietnam may want to consider while the final schedule is confirmed.

The 2027 holiday calendar

The table below sets out the expected dates for each public holiday in 2027. Where a holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, employees are generally entitled to a compensatory day off on the next working day.

HolidayDuration (days)Date(s) in 2027
New Year’s Day11 January (Friday)
Lunar New Year (Tet)5Proposed 4 to 10 February, including two weekend days
Hung Kings’ Temple Festival116 April (Friday)
Reunification Day130 April (Friday)
International Labour Day11 May (Saturday), with a compensatory day expected on 3 May (Monday)
National Day22 to 3 September
Vietnam Culture Day124 November (Wednesday)

What has changed for 2027

The main change for 2027 is the addition of Vietnam Culture Day on 24 November, which brings the total number of paid public holidays to 12. Previous years typically included six occasions rather than seven, so this addition may affect how businesses plan year-end leave schedules and client communications.

Dates still awaiting confirmation

The Lunar New Year and National Day dates above reflect a proposal submitted by the Ministry of Home Affairs to the Government on 11 September 2026. A formal decision is expected shortly after, though the exact timing can vary. Until the schedule is officially published, businesses may want to treat these dates as provisional, particularly when finalising payroll and staffing plans around the Tet period.
